IRRIGATION

Smart irrigation systems are a combination of an advanced technology of sprinklers with nozzles that improve coverage and irrigation controllers that are watering and water conservation systems that monitor moisture-related conditions on your property and automatically adjust watering to optimal levels.

There are two general types of smart irrigation technology: weather based and soil moisture based. Both can help you save water, but there are some important differences. Here is the lowdown on the two, so you can choose the system that best suits your needs:

GAS

GAS

A gas solenoid valve can be used in many applications. Both for commercial and residential devices. Commercial uses of Gas Solenoid Valves generally include any pneumatic machinery that uses gas pressure to move its parts. Manufacturing facilities might use solenoid valves to control the movement of gases used in their manufacturing processes.

Residential applications include solenoid valves used inside furnaces. These control when the gas comes on and is ignited by the pilot light to create warmth. Vehicles powered by natural gas use solenoid valves to control the flow of gas into the engine’s cylinders. While gas-powered clothes dryers also have solenoid valves to control the flow of gas into the dryer, which helps to prevent fires or gas poisoning.

TRUCK

Courtesy of a novel solenoid valve design, heavy-duty trucks and buses can keep drivers’ cabs warm or cool without idling engines. A recently introduced Industrial Climate Control Solution from the company offers an on/off valve with terminations that plug into trucks’ auxiliary equipment to regulate heating and cooling systems. The valve was developed by DODOMACH Fluid Control Division, manufacturers of the Skinner and Gold Ring lines of solenoid valves and the Sinclair Collins line of process control valves.

Electrical specifications include a continuous-duty, Class H molded coil enclosure with an open-frame yoke and electrical leads. The valve’s electrical capabilities allow for 12 volts of direct current and 11 – 16 watts of power consumption, depending on the valve type. Electrical connectors are available upon request. Additionally, the valve can withstand a maximum pressure differential of 25 PSI or more and a maximum ambient temperature of 150 degrees F.

MECHANICAL DEVICES

Pneumatic cylinder(s) (air cylinders) are mechanical devices which use the power of compressed gas to produce a force in a reciprocating linear motion.

Like hydraulic cylinders, something forces a piston to move in the desired direction. The piston is a disc or cylinder, and the piston rod transfers the force it develops to the object to be moved. Engineers sometimes prefer to use pneumatics because they are quieter, cleaner, and do not require large amounts of space for fluid storage.

Because the operating fluid is a gas, leakage from a pneumatic cylinder will not drip out and contaminate the surroundings, making pneumatics more desirable where cleanliness is a requirement. For example, in the mechanical puppets of the Disney Tiki Room, pneumatics are used to prevent fluid from dripping onto people below the puppets.
